first time I've ever seen an Alfa in person. An Alfa 4C with a manufacture's plate.
Lovely-looking car and sounds pretty sweet!
What do you guys think? What have you seen that's interesting this weekend?

i would love to have one of these. I think the 8C is more than i would want from a little car like that. The 4c would be more fun with less consequences.

How did this not have the awkward headlight design? /suspicious

I bet it would. The guy driving it said they'll be going for about $54k when they're on sale! :)

crack pipe. A fiberglass panelled 4 banger is not $50k, i dont care what unreliable italian badge is on it.
30's full loaded and we'll talk.

If I wasn't set on an American V8 in my next purchase, I'd be considering it.

You saw it first? Darn it! I thought I'd see something before you did. :(
I NEED TO STOP SLEEPING!

It's a carbon-fiber tub and front/rear. That's what's driving the price up. It's a Boxster competitor and is priced accordingly.

i get that, but there should be a cheaper version for plebians...

And it has the not shitty headlights!

Does this count? The blue/white diesel on the far left is one of 5 left (1 carcass in Texas, 2 in Mexico,1 in Brazil) and the only one intact....

I know nothing about trains, but that picture is cool so I'll say yes it is neat! :)

If there was a cheap way to make everything out of carbon fiber, everyone would be doing it.

Don't feel too bad, you'd literally have to set up a tent on Woodward to be there more than CrzRsn and me.

Make a plebian model without carbon fiber? Not everything needs to be super high end and only for the rich...

What was wrong with the "originals"? Never saw them before.

Don't forget that they're limited to a few thousand a year. Given that plus the demand, I'm sure plenty of nice dealers out there will let one go for $54k + insane markup.

A gathering of classic 30s/40s/50s era streamlined diesels (and one steam locomotive) at the NC Transportation Museum this weekend in Spencer, NC...once in a lifetime kind of thing. My photo has less than half of what was there....

You could buy a 4C and an LT1 to stuff it in...

I like it! Definitely looks to be a once in a life thing for sure!

If they go with a more traditional chassis and/or steel panels, the 4C becomes over-weight and/or underpowered. If they give it simpler styling, it loses the charm that might make people consider it over a Boxster.
Remember that this is a 4.5 second 0-100 kph car with a 'Ring time closer to 8 minutes, despite its 240 HP 4-banger. You can't have a car like the 4C without also having the expensive bits.

I think an LT1 may be bigger than an entire 4C... Congrats to whoever could shoehorn that in a mid engine compartment!

The whole point of the car was to see how low they could go as a price point using carbon fiber build materials, and $50k is pretty great for that. The next almost-all CF car is 2x that, and the next one 4-5x that. And $50k isn't really a 'rich people only' price point, too many middle managers and accountants could easily get it with financing.

Guess it's a matter of opinion. $54k new is not what I'd consider "only for the rich," despite the total value of all the two and four wheeled vehicles I've ever owned coming in under $15k. Hell, $54k is about 1/4 of what my degree cost.... Ouch, gonna stop thinking about that now, but you can get into a brand new SRT Challenger for that much and enjoy a much heavier curb weight and slower times everywhere except maybe a drag strip.

WHY?! Leave that engine uncovered Alfa...

Its not that I dont think the car isnt worth $54k, by all means, I would absolutely love one, and I dont think that the 4C specifically is overpriced, as I understand the manufacturing process involved in keeping it at its performance level.
What I generally disagree with is the lack of a competitive sports car in that price range that comes "out of the box" if you will.
The Hyundai Genesis isnt too far off, and the Mini is okay, as well as the FR-S/BR-Z twins. That said, none of those cars are what I would consider competitive in price or performance compared to the 4C. While I dont work in management or accounting, I dont quite see why automakers go through certain decisions that do not help the car. While I can also understand that theyre balancing an appeal to both enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts, I simply dont under stand certain problems. The manufacturing money and time into a plastic engine cover vs the extra few pennies to use metal parts where plastic ones tend to fail, or higher quality "disposables" that become less disposable and more dependable.
Best example I have is the Dodge LX platform parking lockout. Save the money by not putting on an engine cover and reinvest those savings into a better fuel tank. Will it always break even or make a profit for that matter? No, of course not. The point is that these cars would be on the road longer, proving the brand potential. That idea has simply been lost today. Cheaper ia better, and that alone I feel has destroyed the very concept behind Bramd Loyalty. Why isnt that important anymore to an automaker?
If I purchased a new car, and had nothing but problems, I would look at what else is in my driveway. Do I have a reason to ask for the car to be replaced, or did that car put a bad taste in my mouth and leave me bitter about the whole brand?
As a car enthusaist, these are the problems I have with the industry as it stands today. For someone my age to outright own a car is rare, and typically results in an older, used car which may or may not have questionable reliability. Otherwise, I get locked into a financial stalemate, owing money on a car, and being forced to bite the bullet on a decision if it turns out to be a bad one.
So, with that in mind, I know that performance comes at a price, but why is it that so many of these sports cars that could be great for younger people have to be manufactured in such a high end way? Thats not me saying no to carbon fiber, thats me questioning if it could be done differently, to make it more affordable for a younger generation that doesnt want car payments or leases or loans. I want to be able to own something like this, not worry about the monthly car payments on a 4cyl car that is just more of a weekend car in its abilities to run lots of errands that involve cargo space.
Essentially, gone are the days someone working a low end job can afford to own a nicer car. They just dont make 'em like they used to. Again, not that I plan to work low end jobs, but the job market and most industries do not support an individual, much less big hobbies like cars. Weekend warriors shouldnt be relegated to older cars.
